PhD supervision
I am interested in supervising motivated students who want to use cutting-edge research methods to address timely questions on environmental governance and sustainable development. Projects related to China’s overseas investments and net-zero transitions in the Global South, would of my particular interest. I currently have many PhD students, so I do not have plan to recruit many new PhDs in coming years. That said, if you have a strong interest in my research areas and a clear plan, please get in touch.
I generally do not accept self-funded students. The Univrsity of Bath and ESRC South West Doctoral Training Programme (SWDTP) offers several studentships for PhDs. These studentships are highly competitive and requires several rounds of selection including the selection within my university. Therefore, for those who want to do PhDs under my supervision, please contact me by mid-October to prepare your applications in January.
Teaching
With my UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship, I am currently not teaching any moduels. However, over the last five years, I have convened a range of modules in the Department of Social and Policy Sciences of the University of Bath. My teaching covers three broad areas:
1) Sustainable development and environmental governance;

3) China’s role in global governance and international development.
Below are a selected list of modules that I have developed and taught:
– Undergraduate: Social Science of Climate Change; The Developmental State; International Politics of Development
